Consumer Electronics Show 2022

CES is always entertaining, even if it’s a year where the show is mostly virtual due to COVID concerns. CES is an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association. The convention is typically held in January at the Las Vegas Convention Center to showcase new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry. Every year there is something new.

WIRED already reported on their takeaway from the event, including highlights such as Google Fast Pair and audio switching; Eco Remote that never needs new batteries because it charges from both solar energy and radio waves from your Wi-Fi router; and an outdoor game console for kids called Picoo. Bird Buddy, an app-connected educational device and bird feeder helps birdwatchers identify species.

The Wall Street Journal reported this year’s event had over 2,300 exhibitors. A couple years ago (pre-pandemic) the show drew over 170,000 attendees and more than 4,500 exhibitors.

BMW’s iX electric car changes its exterior shading from white to gray to black with the press of a button. This year’s foldable laptop, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED from Asustek Computer Inc. turns into a 12.5-inch clamshell notebook.

French startup Wisear has created a neural interface so consumers can play music or answer a call with brain and facial activity. AI transforms the signals into music device controls.
