There’s an old saying that advised people not to change horses in the middle of the stream. When I heard Virgin Hyperloop is going all-cargo, I think the company had many horses and many (revenue) streams.

Since its inception, Virgin Hyperloop has been developing systems to carry both passengers and freight, so it makes sense that the company adjust to the times to take advantage of a unique opportunity right now: helping to solve global supply chain issues.

Fortune magazine says Virgin Hyperloop “has raised just $400 million in financing from investors including Virgin — which acquired the startup in 2017 — and Dubai logistics and ports operator DP World. DP World is Virgin Hyperloop’s majority owner, with 76 percent of shares.”

With Pierre Chambion as vice president of engineering, the company is set to launch cargo transportation pilots by the mid-2020s.

“The world needs a viable solution to the current global supply issues and I am confident that we can make that happen,” Chambion said in a statement.

Passenger hyperloop can come later. Onward and (horizontally, with cargo) upward.
