Micromobility Skyport: A Hub for Emerging Tech and Multimodal Journeys
I am excited to unveil our design for Micromobility Skyport, a hub where emerging technologies including eVTOL (vertical takeoff and landing vehicles), Hyperloop, e-scooters and autonomous cars, can implement seamless transportation connectivity.
The last time I wrote here on Medium, I described some of the many reasons why Bolt Mobility (an innovative e-scooter company) was working to improve the qualityof life in urban areas. Please revisit that blog post from August 2019 for the specifics. I mention that post here because some of the cities that Bolt currently serves (Los Angeles, Nashville, Washington, D.C.) could greatly benefit from having a Micromobility Skyport that includes Bolt as one component of several integrated transportation technologies.
The future of transportation demands that we address some of the issues that are lacking in our systems. Our new systems must be sustainable and available to all citizens, and they must address the present transit challenges such as traffic congestion and air quality.
There are many designs for new transportation facilities being shared at global events that feature emerging technology, but the Micromobility Skyport is unique because our design enables multiple modes of transportation to connect in one location.
The Micromobility Skyport provides a sustainable location where cities can prioritize their specific needs day to day. One city may prioritize improving air quality, while another city may prioritize accessibility for the underserved. A city may need to utilize existing infrastructure, and another may need to connect job seekers with available jobs.
Over half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. This number is expected to increase significantly in the next decade, and city governments must prepare to meet the demands of growth and development. City leaders with foresight must make good decisions now. Some of these new technologies aren’t fully developed yet but others are ready to launch. Cities must prepare to transition as quickly and safely as possible.
Micromobility Skyport can help cities all over the world become more productive, while also improving the quality of life for citizens. This improved quality of life is a top priority when I make investments, particularly in areas of the world where economic opportunities have yet to reach their full potential.
