Next Generation Tech

This week I am thinking about building for the future. No, not buildings in the housing or commercial properties market. I am thinking about next generation tech. April is Miami Tech Month and as you can imagine, things are really busy in my hometown right now.

Miami Tech Month started out as a week of technology conferences and now has grown into a month-long series of tech-related events throughout the city.

These events range from meetups and presentations that celebrate South Florida’s status as a rising star of the innovation sector to cryptocurrency seminars, startup pitch nights, even happy hours for tech networking.

This year kicked off by the inaugural 3-day Miami NFT Week founded by Gianni D’Alerta, Ted Lucas and Erik LaPaglia. The event, held April 1–3, reportedly ended up attracting 7,000 in person or virtually.

Bitcoin 2022 was held April 6–9 at Miami Beach Convention Center, and as I write this, BITE-Con is taking place at Florida Memorial University. Founded by Miami entrepreneur Temante Leary, the all-new Black Innovation Technology & Entertainment (BITE) Conference is working to connect Black students and entrepreneurs with the latest trends in emerging technologies.

Perhaps the best part of Miami Tech Month is connecting tech people with jobs. After all, what’s the benefit of all that education if you can’t land a decent gig? Venture Miami Tech Hiring Fair (April 14, 2022) at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus puts together more than 75 companies hiring for at least 2,000 positions. This is the latest tech hiring fair produced by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez’s Venture Miami team. Attendees come ready for on-site interviews and on-the-spot hiring.

Need transport to the job fair? An Uber voucher code, VENTUREMIAMI, allows attendees to receive two $15 Uber credits for the event.

I’m always ready to talk about tech, startups, investing, and Miami. Follow me on Twitter @shervin and let’s continue the conversation.
